MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CAMP AT KUMBER TE

On 15th May 2026, the Rotary Club of Greater Silchar organized a Maternal and Child Health Camp at Kumbhar with the noble objective of promoting the health and well-being of mothers and children. The camp was attended by renowned gynecologist Dr. Kaustav Kar, Dr. Keshab Patikar, Dr. Ali, and Mr. Panna Das, who rendered their valuable services with dedication and compassion. During the camp, 21 high-risk patients were thoroughly examined and provided with necessary treatment and medical advice, while 11 malnourished children were assessed and given nutritional supplements. The initiative brought healthcare, hope, and care to vulnerable families, reflecting Rotary's unwavering commitment to building a healthier and brighter community.

The Rotary Club of Greater Silchar actively participated in a Health Camp for school students at Borkhola, aimed at promoting health awareness and early medical screening among young learners. During the programme, an awareness session on menstrual hygiene was conducted to educate and empower students with essential knowledge about personal health and hygiene. In addition, an eye screening camp was organised to detect vision-related issues at an early stage. A total of 180 students benefited from the initiative. Past Secretary Rtn. Dr. Juri Sharma played a vital role in the successful conduct of the camp, contributing her expertise and dedication to the cause. On Valentine’s Day, 14th February 2026, the Rotary Club of Greater Silchar organized a Maternal and Child Health Camp at Kumber Tea Estate, spreading care and support among mothers and children. Pregnancy screening was conducted by Dr. Kaustav Kar and Dr. Malvika Tiwari, where several concerns were identified with great care. Four pregnant women were found to be suffering from anemia and six from malnutrition, while three young expectant mothers aged 17, 18 and 19 received special medical attention. Proper treatment and valuable health advice were provided to ensure safe motherhood. Additionally, 11 malnourished children were examined and treated by Dr. Kasav Patikar, and two children were referred to the NRC at Civil Hospital for specialized care. The month-long awareness programme (1st–31st January) was organised by Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangstha (NCYS) in collaboration with the Cachar District Road Safety Committee, with support from the District Transport Department, Cachar. As part of this initiative, three High-Risk Pregnant Women received vital Iron Sucrose infusions to combat anemia, resulting in improved hemoglobin levels from 8 gm% to 10 gm%. One beneficiary, Gayatri Mal, safely delivered her baby on 23/10/2025, while another, Anita Tanti (26), diagnosed with severe anemia (Hb 6 gm%), was admitted to the High-Risk Room and provided timely blood transfusion at Silchar Civil Hospital; the third mother, Moni Balmiki, continues to receive regular follow-up care. EARLY EAR SCREENING CAMP FOR UNDER-5 KIDS

The Rotary Club of Greater Silchar organized a heartfelt Early Detection and Treatment Camp for children below 5 years at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Ramnagar. Under the caring leadership of President Rtn. Dr. Rajat Deb, and with the dedicated service of Past Secretary Rtn. Dr. Juri Sharma and her medical team, 114 little ones were lovingly screened. Twenty-one children were found with hearing concerns; 14 received treatment on the spot, and 7 were guided for further care at SM Dev Civil Hospital. Two children with mild hearing loss will receive continuous support from the club. The emotions in the room told the real story. Parents thanked the team with teary eyes, teachers expressed deep appreciation, and the spirit of “Service Above Self” shone in every moment. A tiny step, a huge impact. Because every child deserves the chance to hear, smile, and shine.

🌸 Rotary Club of Greater Silchar – 2nd Health Screening at Koombir Tea Estate 🌸 On 12th August 2025, the Rotary Club of Greater Silchar organized its 2nd health screening camp for high-risk pregnancies and malnourished children at our adopted village, Koombir Tea Estate, touching 54 lives. Among them were 37 expectant mothers, 14 children, and 3 general patients. The camp identified 13 high-risk pregnant women, including one with severe anemia who was referred for urgent transfusion support. Twelve underweight mothers received protein powder, vitamin supplements, and nutritious food, while 4 severely malnourished children were provided special nutrition care. The Club will continue to monitor and support every case, reaffirming our commitment to safeguarding mothers and children—the heart of every community. 💙

On 3rd July 2025, marking International Plastic Bag Free Day, RC Greater Silchar stepped forward to spread a vital message — say no to plastic, say yes to a cleaner tomorrow. From Apollo Clinic, Meherpur (11 AM) to Silchar Medical College Point (3 PM) and Capital Point (6 PM), our Club President Rtn Dr. Rajat Deb and dedicated members reached out to the people of Silchar. They spoke about the dangers of plastic pollution and the simple yet powerful choice of using eco-friendly jute and cotton bags. With love for our city and concern for our planet, we distributed 500 reusable bags free of cost — planting seeds of change in every heart. Grateful thanks to IPP Rtn Joyjit Biswas, Rtn Dr. Juri Sarma, Rtn Debojyoti Ghosh, Rtn Raja Bhattacharjee, and Rtn Pulok Das for their active presence and commitment to this cause.

In just four camps this month, we have together collected 96 units of blood—each drop a lifeline for someone in need. On 16 July 2025, RC Greater Silchar organised a Child Health Camp at Janseva Social Service Trust, Bisfuti, run by Holy Cross Missionary Society Nuns for school dropouts, benefiting 97 children. Dental and ENT check-ups were conducted, detecting dental caries in 65 children (5 referred to Govt. Dental College), hearing loss in 7 children (2 with SNHL referred to DEIC), one child with speech disorder referred for therapy, and 5 with vision issues referred to SMDCH. All received medication, and deworming was done for all. Writing materials and chocolates were distributed, with participation from soon-to-be-inducted Rotaract Club Dental members, who felt elated to “Unite for Good.”

In her deliberation Dr. Etipa Sinha, Gynecologist spoke in details via PPT about Menstrual hygiene and DR Juri sarma ENT Surgeon, talked about Oral Hygiene & about self-breast exam, early screening n detection. ONGC officials were very thankful to the initiative taken by RC Greater Silchar and looked forward to have more such joint collaborations. World Population Day

On the occasion of World Population Day, the Rotary Club of Greater Silchar, in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM) and the District Health Society, Cachar, successfully organised an Awareness Camp aimed at sensitizing the public on key issues surrounding population growth, reproductive health, and family planning n very important topic teenage marriage was discussed.. The event took place at Silchar Urban PHC and witnessed the esteemed presence of several dignitaries. The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour . Others are jt director of health science cachar, Distt legal cell advisor, ex jt DHS n DPM. The program was followed by A Mega Laparoscopic Sterilization of 31 Females along with Vesectomy of 4 Males. A team Comprising n headed by Dr Ashutosh Barman performed the operations. Our club is targetting to do 100 sterilization in one year.
